  • The area around the Metropolitan Museum of Art is commonly referred to as "Museum Mile." The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Neue Galerie are located near the Met's main building.
  • The Metropolitan Museum of Art first opened on February 20, 1872. It moved to its present location in 1880.
