Owned by MGM Mirage, the Bellagio was built on the site of the demolished Dunes hotel and casino. The building was inspired by the Lake Como resort of Bellagio, Italy.

Most of the Las Vegas Strip, including the Bellagio, is actually located in Paradise Township, Nevada.

One of the hotel's most notable features is an 8-acre (32,000 m2) artificial lake between the building and the Strip, which houses the Fountains of Bellagio, a large dancing water fountain synchronized to music.

The Bellagio was featured prominently in the film Ocean's Eleven. The building and the fountains have been in several films and TV shows.

The hotel also contains a Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. The displays are changed out five times a year and reflect the current season.
