The Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame is home to an extensive collection of artifacts and archives relating to the history of skiing. It contains displays on skiers, trophies, clothing and equipment. There is a gift shop, library and theater.

In 1905, the National Ski Association, today known as the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association, was formed in Ishpeming. The city is therefore often called the birthplace of organized skiing in the United States.

The Roland Palmedo Memorial Library, one of the largest research ski libraries in the United States is housed in the building.
