The house served as a Presidential Retreat during the Eisenhower administration and was also home to the Eisenhowers after they left the White House in 1961.

Landmark Trivia

  • Representing the states, 50 Norway Spruce trees line the main driveway. Most were given to Eisenhower as birthday presents from the Republican Party chairman of each state in 1955.
  • Some of the more famous guests at the house included Nikita Khrushchev, Charles de Gaulle, Winston Churchill, and Ronald Reagan.
  • The Eisenhowers ran the estate as a working cattle farm. It had a show herd of black Angus cattle.
