At a combined length of approximately 5.75 miles (9.25 kilometers), the Atlantic City / Ventnor boardwalk is currently the longest boardwalk in the world. Strolling the boardwalk will take you past famous hotels, casinos and streets.

The Boardwalk starts at Absecon Inlet and runs along the beach for four miles (six kilometers) to the city limit.

This boardwalk gained notoriety due to the board game Monopoly, which was based upon the trading and dealing of real estate in Atlantic City.

The first version of the boardwalk was built in 1870, with 12-foot wide sections laid directly on the sand, in hopes of reducing the amount of sand tracked into hotel lobbies by beachgoers.

The well-known song, "On the Boardwalk in Atlantic City," comes from the 1946 film "Three Little Girls in Blue."
