The Transcontinental Railroad was completed here on May 10, 1869.

Many sources incorrectly state that the location of the Golden Spike ceremony was "Promontory Point" instead of Promontory Summit.

The town of Promontory was temporary during the building of the railroad. Today, very few people live there.
