The "Hall of Fame" is an open-air colonnade, 630 feet in length. Placed along the colonnade are bronze busts of American-born people who have contribute to the economic, political, or cultural life of the nation.

- The landmark sits on the site of Fort Washington, lost to the British in 1776 during the Revolutionary War.
- The last group of honorees elected to the Hall of Fame were Clara Barton, Luther Burbank and Andrew Carnegie. They were chosen in 1976.
- The site was featured in the 2006 film "The Good Shepherd" as part of Yale University.
